The All-Progressives Congress APC in Rivers State, is accusing the chairman of Opobo Nkoro local government, Enyiada Cookey-Gam of masterminding the attack on the APC campaign team.
Spokesman of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, Sogbeye Eli said sporadic gunfire accompanied by hauling of bottles and other dangerous projectiles at party members stopped the APC governorship candidate from proceeding to the venue designated for the rally.
The Spokesman of the APC Governorship Campaign Council in Rivers state, Sogbeye Eli called for the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police in the State, Okon Effiong.
He also called on the Inspector-General of Police and the National Security Adviser to enforce their commitments not to allow state governors use state apparatus to oppress opposition political parties.
Responding to the allegation, the chairman of Opobo Nkoro local government, Enyiada Cookey-Gam blamed the All-Progressive Congress for the disruption of its campaign rally in Opobo Nkoro.
Enyiada Cookey-Gam said the All-Progressive Congress did not meet the conditions for holding public rallies as stipulated in the Executive Orders.
He said while twelve persons were injured in the attack orchestrated by the APC, suspected thugs also destroyed billboards and cars belonging to members of the PDP in Opobo Nkoro.
The Opobo Nkoro council boss, Enyiada Cookey-Gam also dismissed insinuations that he masterminded the attack because of the defection of one Boma Brown to the APC.
