Officially called the Kyrgyz Republic is a landlocked country in Western Asia. The country is bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, China to the east, Uzbekistan to the west and Tajikistan to the south.

On August 31, 1991, Kyrgyzstan declared its independence from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which was dissolved on December 26, 1991. On March 2, 1992, the country was admitted to the United Nations.

Sadyr Japarov, 53, is the incumbent and sixth president of Kyrgyzstan. He assumed office on January 28, 2021.
