The Principality of Liechtenstein is a microstate in Western Europe and one of the only two doubly landlocked countries in the world. German is the official language of the microstate, which is located in the Alps between Austria and Switzerland.

On August 23, 1866, Liechtenstein separated from the German Confederation. On September 18, 1990, the microstate was admitted to the United Nations.

Hans-Adam II, 76, has been reigning as the prince of Liechtenstein since November 13, 1989. The microstate's incumbent prime minister Daniel Risch, 43, assumed office on March 25, 2021.
