Some time ago, I met a friend in a coffee bar. It was one of those places where they write your name on a disposable cup, and call you when it's ready. I asked if she had the wrong coffee, because she had 'Pat' written on her cup. And her name wasn't Pat.
'That's the name I gave them' she said 'because I got tired of spelling Eimear'
What a good idea, I thought, and, since then, my 'coffee name' has been Ben!
I thought of a tale where a customer gave his name as 'Marc … spelt with a C'. His coffee came with the name 'Cark' written on the cup. If the story is true, I suspect the barista was having a laugh. Nobody could be that obtuse … could they?
I came upon a place the other day, where they require you to bring your own re-useable up. Now, I've come across places before where they give you a discount if you bring your own cup; with that in mind, I recently bought a collapsible one, which will fold up to a convenient size to fit in a pocket or a bag.
No problem if you can't bring your own mug. They'll sell you one! But, what tickled me was the last line … if you don't want to buy, they'll LEND you one.
Hello! This may be news to them … but I've been using coffee bars where they'll 'lend' you a re-useable cup since I was fourteen years old!
