I live inside of Leisure World, in Seal Beach, CA. I have never heard of finding/hiding quilted hearts. I happened to see something red in a tree (the tree has pink flowers), and went closer to see what was in the tree. It appeared that someone had maybe clothes-pinned something to the tree...but what?? An advertisement for something?? Going closer, I could see that it was fabric, and here it was... a quilted heart with a little note on it to go to this website and report finding it. Very fun! Thanks to whomever made it and hid it there for someone (me!) to discover.
