Once upon a time someone came up with a magic formula that you need to have 100 listings in your Etsy store to be found and make more sales. It's a myth of course, because it isn't simply about publishing 100 listings. But it makes sense that having more listings in your store actually could help your Etsy shop and increase your chances of making more sales. Here's how:
Etsy will find you in search: More items means more choice, and more choice means the chances of customers finding what they want: Range is important. And if more customers are finding your store and buying your items, Etsy will see this and that will push you higher up search results.
A fuller shop looks more professional: You wouldn't be attracted to a high street store that only sold five things. So why would you be attracted to an online store that only offered you five? Keep a balanced range of items available across all the departments on your shop and offer something for all price points. Where applicable, offer different sizes and colour options. This will help you appeal to a greater range of shop visitors and means you have a better chance of increasing your sales.
Selling multiples vs unique items: It stands to reason that if you sell multiples of one item, you are more likely to make sales than someone who only sells one offs, no matter how many you have. But that doesn't mean you have to set up a production line. Unique items are often more time intensive if handmade or vintage, but also more exclusive and that will appeal to people who don't want to have the same things as everyone else. And on that note:
When having less is more: If you make a very specific time intensive item (such as furniture or wedding dresses), you probably won't have lots in your shop and that's fine. If you have a niche item, you probably have a niche customer and if you can create enough demand for your listing with your niche customer base, you might never struggle to sell your items. Finding what that niche is, might be simple for you, as many handmade sellers are simply drawn to what they like to make but finding that unique angle on it can be more of a challenge so do your research.
Let me know if you try any of these tips and if they work for you. But don't forget, there is no such thing as an overnight success, even on Etsy, so keep working at it.
