Yugoslavia was a country in Southeastern Europe. Following World War I, Yugoslavia became a nation, and was officially recognized in 1922. In 2003, Yugoslavia became the Federated Union of Serbia and Montenegro, which further separated in 2006. Other than Serbia and Montenegro, Yugoslavia broke up into 4 additional independent states: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, and Slovenia.

Our banknote this week is Yugoslavia 5,000,000,000 Dinara p135a BNB468a 1993. This is a yellow, orange, and brown paper banknote with Croatian and Serbian text. On the front of the note are images of Dura Jaksic, and the National Bank of Yugoslavia's bank seal. The back of the banknote shows Vracevsnica Monastery. The watermark for this banknote is a diamond pattern.

Dura Jaksic was a Serbian writer, poet, teacher, and painter. Jaksic studied the arts, but was unable to finish his degree due to the Revolution of 1848 in the Austrian Empire. Dura Juksic took part in the revolution; however, he was often mistreated by authorities due to his liberal political views. He would later become a teacher and a lecturer, but was often unemployed. Jaksic died in 1878 at the age of 46 years old.

Vracevsnica Monastery is in Gornji Milanovac, Serbia. This Orthodox monastery was built in 1428-1429 under the orders of Stefan Lazarevic and Durad Brankovic. This monastery was built to honor Saint George.
