There are many instances I can think of when people haven't been as kind as they could or should be. And it hurts to be honest to be treated or spoken to in an unkind way.
So today's post is about dealing with the cruelty of others. This can be in the form of criticism or maybe gestures. One can feel unkindness.
I know from time working with the homeless, that many of them have faced cruelty. And so a kind word or a smile meant a lot-this was an antidote to the other experiences.
We can't make people change. But we can model something different and we can come in the opposite spirit as it were-kind not cruel, gentle rather than harsh and I would always advocate forgiving not resenting.
In this way, we can indeed make a difference. There are many stories in the media now of horrific acts and barbaric cruelty. But not so many stories of human decency, goodness and love towards our fellow humans.
