Eilanden Ontdek Thailand
Thailand has a lot of islands. From famous and overrun with tourists to unknown and untouched. Koh Adang falls into the latter category, close to the border of Malaysia.
If you search for Thai islands on the internet, names such as Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Chang and Koh Phangan are the first to come up. And maybe Koh Lipe too. Close to the latter is Koh Adang, one of the 51 Thai islands in Tarutao National Park.
IN THE ANDAMAN SEA
This park and its islands are located in the Andaman Sea. Of all these islands, Koh Adang is the second largest. The biggest? You may have guessed it: Koh Lipe.
From that island you can easily make a day trip to the unknown and therefore quieter Koh Adang. Most tourists do that, by the way, because there is little to do on the island itself.
There is no electricity during the day – only from 6.30 pm to 11.30 pm – and therefore no Wi-Fi. How do you get through the day then? By chilling on the beach with a view of a bright blue sea, as you recognized from the Bounty commercial of the past.
Koh Adang is 6 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide and has only a few sandy beaches. For the rest it mainly consists of rocks. Apart from huts on the beach, there are no other options for overnight stays. These accommodations are also only suitable for hardcore travelers, because they are rather primitively furnished with rock-hard beds.
BETTER AS DAY TRIP
It is therefore best to visit Koh Adang as a day trip by sailing there from Koh Lipe by boat. In addition to swimming and chilling on the beach, you can also snorkel well. Take your own food and drinks with you, because there are also plenty of restaurants and shops.
Before you enter the island, you must pay an entrance fee of 200 baht. For the Thai, that is 20 baht, by the way, in case you want to know.
