Wandering around the home of Ole Miss...lush and lovely setting.
#1 joint to hang yer hat while checking out all things Ole Miss-related.
Cedar trees everywhere...once thought to ward off yellow fever...they didn't, but they look real nice.
Classic 'Carpenter Gothic' construction style for many houses here...oh the stories these walls could tell.
Cinnamon rolls with endless frosting and bottomless cups of joe...a big fat southern hug on a plate...mmm, aaaahh!
Fabulous bakery/snack/coffee shop near Oxford Square...check it out, you will like it a lot.
Always wanted to visit the hometown of William Faulkner and the University of Mississippi, aka, Ole Miss. Let's check it out.
You gotta stay in The Inn at Ole Miss when popping down here...nice big rooms, efficient and welcoming staff, fabulous location--easy walking to campus, Oxford Square, Rowan Oak--the former home of William Faulkner, snack shops, restaurants, bars, etc. We highly recommend this place...mmhhmmm!
We stroll around town, the vibes are extremely chill...lots of interesting houses, lots of trees--this place is LUSH, lots of birds chirping all day and all night--lovely, and all people are friendly to us. . .we feel alright down here...eager to grab lots of local grub and drink--put some south in our mouth, yes-indeedy-dee.
Amidst all of the wonderful flora there are many cedar trees in the front yards of many houses...we are told that this harkens back to the 19th century and yellow fever...it was thought that cedar trees somehow warded off the yellow fever virus--it did not. But I guess folks just like the look of the cedar trees now...and the fragrance they give off...whatever the case, they certainly create a bit of atmosphere that we northeasterners don't usually experience. . .they remind us that we are not in Manhattan at the moment--we are in the south, Mississippi, a place that we want to know more about...
...thank you for welcoming us, Ole Miss!
Speaking of welcoming us, we grab coffee and cinnamon rolls at a joint called the Bottletree Bakery located just off of Oxford Square, It's a Friday morning, the place is bustling with patrons sipping java, gobbling rolls and biscuits and bagels, chatting about this and that and enjoying the passage of time.
We slather our cinnamon rolls with copious amounts of frosting...we gobble these down...we sip our coffees...we feel welcomed.
More to come from this cozy little town in Mississippi...Oxford.
It's lovely out there.
