US Senate chaplain Barry C. Black gave a beautiful prayer to those assembled in that chamber yesterday.
When babies die at a church school it is time for us to move beyond thoughts and prayers.
I heard this on the radio and television yesterday. He also said,
Remind our lawmakers of the words of the British statesman Edmund Burke: "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing."
As beautiful as this prayer was, I would be remiss if I didn't point out that Edmund Burke didn't actually say it. I researched it extensively twelve years ago and wrote about it in an article for my blog Read Play Edit. And it was old news then, in 2011. (Read this and this. We could go on and on with this research; it's out there.)
That said, if it moves the needle on the gun control issue in this country, I'm all for it. As you have probably seen on social media, I choose the second grader over the Second Amendment. And if you can't choose the second grader, GOP, there is something horribly wrong with you.
