From Princely Onyenwe
The Imo State Correctional Center has fully recovered their facility located within Avu Junction along Owerri PortHarcourt road and sent parking all illegal occupants.
The Prisons management has completely demolished all the shanties in the premises including the Hausas and Ashawo illegal occupants.
For sometime past, the premises was undeveloped, bushy and threatening to the beauty features of the Owerri original geographical plan. 9News Nigeria has earlier reported for its revocation or immediate development to avert land grabbers converting the large expanse of land to a criminal den.
Our research team reports that the land was allotted to Prisons through the ministry of lands in the then former Governor Rochas Okorocha tenure as state Governor.
During Okorocha time as Governor, there were rapid opening of lands within the surbub areas close to Owerri municipality which is the state capital.
Huge parcels of Avu, Nekede, Obinze lands were allotted to Nigeria Police, New estates developers, Companies and the Correctional Center. Structures are built in some of these lands but has not been fully in use or become operational until Governor Hope Uzodinma assumed office, 9News Nigeria reports.
Also some New roads connecting the new Owerri axis and the new allotted estates were opened together with infrastructural establishment which was rapid then, as gathered.
But regrettedly to Imolites and the world at large, none of such facilities stood the test of time.
9News Nigeria reports that the prison facility at Avu Junction Owerri was temporarily occupied by sugarcane sellers which later developed to a criminal den scattered with shanties used to sheltering all sorts of persons and businesses.
Now that the official allotees of the facility are developing the land, the shanties were demolished and the illegal occupants sent away by the orders of government.
In furtherance, there was no attack by hoodlums in the area as reported by fiery Newsmen.
While interviewing people in the area, they criticized the call by the Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG through their Spokesperson, who called on Federal Government to swift into action to determine the quantum loss of properties by Northerners in such attack to pay compensation due to each victim as a charade.
At a tip of such rumour flying the airwaves and headline stories, the Imo state Police command dismissed the report saying that hoodlums set ablaze Hausa market in Avu Owerri.
The Police Command attributed such report as mischievous and untrue, targetted at causing disaffection in the state.
To this end, that place Hausas are occupying looks like government land. It seems the Hausas should come out legitimately and buy land accordingly and in line with the edicts of Lands ministry. If such is done, then their people can owe a land and do their business a deemed.
The people hailed government efforts to beautify the area while noting that the land belongs to Prisons not Criminals, Prostitutes or Hausas.
"The illegal occupants on this same Prisons land are bastardizing and degrading the geographical features of the state by the measure of illegal deals running on daily basis in the area.
Sources told 9News Nigeria that the occupants in that area including those Hausas and Ashawos' should look out for other lands to buy, establish and dominate. Acquiring lands illegally is a common factor in their circle but let it be put to a stop henceforth.
The source also stated that this particular land is been dis-valued by the kind of dangerous businesses going on there for years since the owners leased the premises out to them.
Imolites however thanked the management of the correctional center Owerri for the rapid work going on in the premises and therefore called on the affected person to understand the situation.
At the time of filling this report by 9News Nigeria, those that sustained various degrees of injury in the process of resisting the demolition by government are recovering in the hospital where treatment is being administered to them having recorded one causality.
