I slowly landed onto the tarmac of LAX, the big 'ol airport of Los Angeles, feeling the city new this time.
I had been here before on a stopover to Mexico, but I've changed with new eyes seeing a new city.
I first came here 11 years ago in 2012 after I completed a student exchange program in Mexico City, and travelled back to visit with a stopover in LA. The stopover was only a few hours, while my latest trip was another stopover of 8 hours in the city of angels.
Today I am older. Short times also mean short bursts of a city's tones and tapestry.
I decided this time I would head to the Hollywood Hills. First stop was a cafe, xx. I grabbed a delicious meal with a warm hazelnut latte.
I recall hazelnut lattes from my first time in the USA. It reminds me of US trips. It conjures a nostalgia within me.
I then had the Griffith Observatory as a destination goal. To see the expanding city beyond.
After breakfast, I wandered an hour through the Hollywood Hills, tasting the hot summer morning. The winding streets and Mexican construction workers I came across reminded me of Southern Californian vibes. Una onda califoricano.
Once I arrived to the observatory atop a high hill, the view over LA acted spectacularly. Seeing the broad city makes me wonder how they can fit enough people to make this the second largest city in the USA.
Flat streets spread in all directions with spots of mini tower rising clusters across the metro area.
I liked feeling the warmth breathe into me. I looked over to the famous Hollywood Sign on a nearby hill and thought about how much that little symbol embodies part of the American dream.
Seeing it in reality is different. The dream is beyond these tall letters. Los sueƱos are our own to make, create and feel. LA is a stopover fantasy exhaled from me on that sunny Californian day.
