Keeping Watch
"...even if I don't always take a picture, the simple act of carrying a camera and searching for something to photograph greatly sharpens my powers of observation and allows me to experience much more of life."
Kent Reno
This week we welcome Guest Host Egidio of Through Brazilian Eyes who challenges us to share the things we do to recharge. Those who have followed me for some time could probably guess that my answer would revolve around my daily walks to Kiawah's beautiful beach. Whatever else is going on in my life, my walks to our beach never fail to lift my spirits and recharge my batteries.

"If you become a photographer you will do a lot of walking so buy good shoes."
David Turn
While I sometimes deviate from my usual path, for the most part I follow the same route. As such, I've opened my post today with a mediocre image from my starting point. While walking Kiawah's bike path through an area of beautiful live oak trees I spotted a gorgeous hawk near the top of one of them. There's not much you can do with a hawk high in an oak tree when your lens of choice is on an iPhone, but I did my best. In fact, all of my images today were captured along my walk with my iPhone, including the second image above, the clubhouse for Kiawah's Cougar Point Golf course.

"Photography: it's as simple as getting a camera and going for a walk."
Bernard Descamps
The scene above is directly across the street from the Cougar Clubhouse and has been featured in some of my previous posts. I made this particular image during a walk early this week. I was drawn to the clouds which I believe were brought in by Hurricane Lee. Fortunately for us, this one traveled north with its wind and rain.
Just after the pond my path meanders through some of our local grasses (this week I noticed the first appearance of the pink color that is a harbinger of autumn) and some lovely wildflowers as captured below.
"Get a good pair of walking shoes and...fall in love."

"Keep walking, keep looking, and keep pushing, eventually something interesting will happen."
Alex webb
For the most part I make a point of moving along at a fairly good pace, as my walks are both my way of recharging and my attempt to stay physically fit . That said, I always have my eye out for "something interesting" and will stop whenever my eye catches an image waiting to be captured. Eventually, I make my way to the beach. I've captured it in every season, all kinds of weather, from sunrise through sunset and at all levels of "occupation". Because of some time conflicts, all of my walks this week (pictured below) were in the late morning or early afternoon.

"Essentially I walk, explore, discover and photograph."
Michael Kenna
Finally, a small cheat. I'm including it because of the 'amazing clouds most probably generated by the influences of Hurricane Lee off of our coast. In this case, while I made the image this week, I was enjoying a beachside lunch with my husband rather than walking.

"Just walking. Painting pictures in my mind. Shades of light. Shapes and textures. The eye is drawn. The camera drawn. No...just walking."
Steve Coleman
I hope you've enjoyed my walk as much as I do, and that you have equally restorative activities in your life. We look forward to your sharing them with us. We offer our sincere thanks to Egidio for joining us this week with his beautiful post here. Please remember to link your post to his, and to use the Lens-Artists Tag to appear in our WP reader section. Thanks also to Donna for her Time challenge last week - your responses were terrific and amazingly varied. Finally, I'll be leading next week's challenge so be sure to join me right here on Travels and Trifles next Saturday at noon EST. In the meanwhile as always please stay safe, be kind, and enjoy the journey.
