Sister Claire was an artist known world-wide in the Catholic Church. Her upper-caste Hindu family named her Meera when she was born in 1937.
Meera's father's job with the Indian railway system necessitated frequent moves.

When her family lived in Bangalore Meera was sent to a Christian school where she was introduced to Biblical stories.
No Room at the Inn- by Sister Claire
At the age of 17 in order to avoid an arranged marriage Meera fled to a convent run by the Salesian Missionaries of Mary Immaculate in Bangalore.
Jesus is Born by Sister Claire
Meera was baptized and joined the missionary order at age 18. Her name was changed to Sister Claire.
The Shepherds Visit by Sister Claire
Claire worked briefly as a teacher for her order but when ill health forced her to stop, she started painting.
Her mother superior recognizing her talent sent her to art school.
Visit of the Magi by Sister Claire
Sister Claire produced thousands of paintings on Biblical themes and became known throughout the Catholic Church and beyond for her work.
Presentation at the Temple by Sister Claire
Her art was recognized by the Pope and she was given a life time achievement award by the bishops of India.
Flight to Egypt by Sister Claire
Sister Claire's death in 2018 was noted in India's newspapers.
