i am splitting these posts up by location because it's the only way to keep things somewhat orderly, so today we are beginning with the journey and the first stop.
although i was travelling "with" my parents we had different starting points, so the easiest thing to do was meet along the way. they flew from memphis to chicago to amsterdam while i flew from new york and met them in amsterdam. i had a bit of a scare on saturday night when i found out my first flight was going to be significantly delayed, but thanks to emily at delta customer support we got everything taken care of and i was still able to keep the second half of my itinerary.
from amsterdam it was on to bangalore where we able to grab showers at the transit hotel before a 7am flight to coimbatore. we were zombies by the time all the travel was done, and after breakfast i very happily went to my aunt's house and crashed for a few hours.
coimbatore was all about catching up with family and spending time with aunts, uncles, and cousins. i picked up some new kurtas at fabindia and talked myself into two new rugs in the process, i went for a few early morning walks around race course, and i generally spent my days easing back into life in india. we had a fun afternoon at home laughing and telling stories as well as a few nice meals out and i caught up on all the gossip i've missed over the years. it was great to begin the trip at such a relaxed pace since i knew what the next few weeks would bring.
from coimbatore it was on to bombay where the real chaos was about to begin...
