Late afternoon light has a special quality.
.
A perfect time for viewing foxes.
.
Animals always seem to sense when they are being observed. Deer are very nervous and are apt to flee.
Foxes are very alert, constantly scanning the terrain but they don't appear bothered by our presence at a window.
.
Needing a few things on Friday, we decided for a change to shop at the Hannaford's in Bennington.
Greenwich is no closer but we tend to shop there because it's so often on our way to somewhere else.
.
The journey to Bennington is always nice and Friday was a great day to enjoy the ride.
.
Bennington is in the opposite direction so we headed south out of Cambridge.
.
Past the Old Turnpike Graveyard where veterans of the Revolutionary War are buried.
.
There are many such markers and memorials hereabouts and I often think of the people who lived during that time.
It wasn't really all that long ago, but it's hard to imagine how life could have changed more since.
.
Crossing the Owl Kill, we turned onto State Route 22.
.
Before long we were in Vermont.
Shaftsbury Alpaca Farm is right across the road from the State line marker.
Looking up the website, I decided must pay them a visit!
.
Sometimes images please me not because they are good but just because they do.
.
How could one not to be pleased with a day of such quality?
.
The road does a lot of ups and downs before dropping into Bennington.
.
Bennington Hannaford's feels different.
The layout and merchandise are all the same but the atmosphere is not.
.
But we did not loiter and took a different path home.
.
The Vermont Mill processed wool in the 19th century but now it houses rental properties.
.
The Southwestern Vermont Medical Center where I have an appointment soon with a new rheumatologist.
.
Two days later I'll be meeting my new primary care physician.
Great expectations? Hm.
.
This was such a pleasant route!
.
Admittedly, a little grand for a couple of scruffians with a gang of feline delinquents.
.
One gets a particularly wide view of the sky up here.
.
Days like this make you want to write poetry.
.
Or music.
A favourite piece comes to mind...
.
..it always makes me think Spring:
Symphony on a French Mountain Air
by Vincent D'Indy
.
Alas, I can write neither.
Now I must return to the reality of a very soggy Sunday afternoon, don my rain gear and attend to the needs of my poor sodden friends.
Though from the sound of it, the sparrows at least are enjoying the deluge.
