I might have missed that season this year, but instead, I made two trips out to sketch these amazing red poppies with Nina and Uma. Below are three takes on the same subject. In this first one, I collaged in the flowers and eliminated much of the green to let the reds take center stage. This next one started off with red ink all over the background. (My June newsletter does a deeper dive into this piece in stages: if you haven't already, sign up here, it's free) This last one is painted on tinted paper and has California poppies mixed in with Flanders poppies. It's flower season for a while more, so while the Flanders poppies are fading away, the Matilija poppies are in full bloom. I'll be heading out there soon...
