Stevens on Taking on a World of Words. To participate, you just answer the Three W's: - What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you'll read next?
Currently Reading: I was inspired to read The Train to Crystal City by Susan Meissner's novel The Last Year of the War. It's a fairly easy read extensively detailing the southern Texas camp that housed Japanese, German, and Latin American internees during World War II. The Trackers is another classic by Cold Mountain author Charles Frazier, this time set in the American West of the 1930s with the plot involving a painter of post office murals. Recently Finished: I got a number of good reading recommendations from Kenneth C. Davis's Great Short Books -- classics and more contemporary works. Argylle by Elly Conway (published January 4, 2024) Argylle is quite good, mostly involving a search for the legendary Amber Room. Only the titular character remains from the recent movie and the expected prequel to that probably is based upon this book as it gives his backstory. Reading Next: This will be a month set in the U.S. West and Southwest, starting with Elizabeth Gonzalez James's magical realism novel The Bullet Swallower and continuing with Frederick Nolan's brief history of the region.
