These two people in the Louvre-Lens look intently at a prehistoric flint object in the shape of a laurel leaf found in Rigny-sur-Arroux (Sâone-et-Loire), France. Around 20.000 years ago a fellow man has done his or her best in creating this finely carved object. The woman in black inadvertently directs our attention to the black hole in the steep rock face at the back. As if she has just broken herself away from it. It is a monumental image of the Bâmiyân cliff, a photographic work of 15 panels by French artist Pascal Convert which is to remind us of the destruction by the Taliban in 2001 of the 1500 year old Buddha statues carved in that rock face. Looking, thinking, creating, destroying … ecce homo. Photo of the week: La galerie du temps, Musée du Louvre-Lens, France 2024 | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
