I found this on May 21, 2024 at the grocery store where I work. It was in the back basket of one of our small carts (which is the most common place I find lost or forgotten items), so I suspect it was not left there intentionally. My guess is that someone found it elsewhere the same day, and took it with them grocery shopping. Why they put it in the cart instead of their pocket or purse or something, I couldn't say.
I read the label, weighed my options, and came to the conclusion that odds were good it would be thrown away sooner or later if I left it with lost and found. If someone actually returned and asked for it, I apologize, but I doubt that's the case. It seemed the safest thing was to just keep it.
It is extremely cat themed. I was pleased to see that a similar one was found earlier this year by a self-identified "crazy cat lady." I, on the other hand, am a 31 year old man who's very allergic to cats, so it almost seems inappropriate that I should have this one. I've considered if I should re-hide it, but I wonder if that's against the etiquette if I've already reported it. Plus, I worry about what might happen to it. I feel responsible for it. Looks like I'm keeping it.
