I think I mentioned in an earlier post that visiting Leamington Ontario as we did this past week, my husband's childhood home, is something we've done about sixty times during our married life.
We've come back almost every summer. In the early 1970s when we were first married and my husband's parents were still farming, our visits meant we spent time out in the fields helping with the work that needed to be done.
Here's a look at some of our other summer visits.
Our son watches his great-grandmother make pickles on a visit in the early 1980s. We always left Ontario with our trunk full of jars of pickles and peaches and jams, bags of dried apples and fresh tomatoes and other bounty from the orchards and fields of family members.
Our son at age six is in his Detroit Tigers regalia. Trips to Leamington usually included an evening at Tiger Stadium in neighbouring Detroit to watch a major league baseball game. It was a tradition for my father-in-law to take his sons to a game once a year and that tradition was carried on with grandchildren as well.
My husband's parents' 50th wedding anniversary in 1992. It was a big family party!
My husband, our son, and nephew sharing a beverage at the Boblo Island Amusement Park early 1980s.
Family cycling trip to Boblo Island 2015.
My brother-in-law, nephews and son on the Pelee Island ferry in the early 1980s
The family ready to board the ferry early 1990s
My husband with his nephew and great-nephew on the ferry going to Pelee Island for a huge three-generation family party in 2017
A ferry boat trip out to Pelee Island where my husband's father grew up and where his brother and sister-in-law lived for many years was usually a part of our summer visits.
Our son and his cousin during an excursion to nearby historic Fort Malden in the 1990s.

A walk in the woods filled with trilliums near Leamington with my sister-in-law in 2016.
At a Detroit Tigers game in 2011.
Our niece gives her uncle a tour of Pelee Island Winery where she had a summer job in 2010.
My husband takes his Dad for a walk in 2014.
My husband and son on my in-law's Leamington farmyard in 1981.
We have some great memories of our summers in Leamington, Ontario. We made some new ones this last week. We hope to make even more in the future.
