There were several others that I started and made some progress within. A couple of those appear on this month's TBR. In preparing the August TBR, I went through the full 2024 TBR checking which books I have yet to read and adding a few recent finds while deleting a few that I no longer have real interest in. I ended up creating tentative TBR's for each month remaining this year. Each of these contain nine or ten books which I will do my best to accomplish but it seems a daunting task as I completed so few in July. Books Finished in July: - The Fourth of July and the Founding of America by Peter de Bolla (2007)
- The 71/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton (2018)
- Printer's Error: Irreverent Stories from Book History by Rebecca Romney and J.P. Romney (2017)
- The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan (2013)
- The Diary of a Young Girl: The Definitive Edition by Anne Frank (1947/1995)
- Lost Birds by Anne Hillerman (2024)
- The Secret River by Kate Grenville (2005)
Of the ten books to be read (hopefully!) in August, five are fiction and two are bookish. There is also one biographical literary critique, a straight history of a sea voyage, and a motivation work for teachers. It's a good mix of mostly medium-length books and one or two much longer texts. Of the latter, I've read previous works by the author and they tend to flow well in an exciting, almost fictional style. To Be Read in August - A Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne (1864)
- Middle of the Night by Riley Sager (2024)
- The Transatlantic Conspiracy by G. D. Falksen (2016)
- The World Between Two Covers: Reading the Globe by Anne Morgan (2015)
- Anne Frank: The Book, The Life, The Afterlife by Francine Prose (2009)
- Red Star Falling by Steve Berry (2024)
- Happy Teachers Change the World: A Guide for Cultivating Mindfulness in Education by Thich Nhat Hanh and Katherine Ware (2017)
- For the Love of Books: Stories of Literary Lives, Banned Books, Author Feuds, Extraordinary Characters, and More by Graham Tarrant (2019)
- Call of the Penguins by Hazel Prior (2021)
- The Wide Wide Sea: Imperial Ambition, First Contact and the Fateful Final Voyage of Captain James Cook by Hampton Sides (2024)
