In February of 2017 we visited San Francisco and Napa Valley. We had some great wines, of course, but we also stopped at Oxbow Public Market for some food. There we stumbled upon the Napa Valley Distillery booth and Old Hollywood Ginn. Why are there two "n"s in "Ginn"? No one knows. To me the most special thing about this gin, one of the only small bottles in my collection, is that my wife thinks it's great. She generally hates gin. So why does she like this one? I think part of it comes from the brandy base that they use as a neutral spirit. I think it is also that the juniper flavor is quite mild. Instead the dominant taste is cardamom and maybe cinnamon or cloves. According to the distillery the recipe is "hush, hush." But they do claim to use "9 rare botanicals plus a touch of oak." It's 80 proof and best as a sipping gin. There is no reason to dilute it with tonic. You can get the small bottle for $40 on their website, and the 750mL bottle is $75. This is an expensive gin, but when you collect gin and there is only one your wife enjoys you'll pay any price! | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
