July TBR

Despite being too sleepy to surpass much more than my goal of one hundred pages on most evenings in June, I still managed to complete eight out of the nine books on the month's TBR list which I found to be quite an achievement.

Books Finished in June:

  1. The Secret Lives of Booksellers and Librarians by James Patterson and Matt Eversman (2024)
  2. Blackboard: A Personal History of the Classroom by Lewis Buzbee (2014)
  3. The Bullet Swallower by Elizabeth Gonzalez James (2024)
  4. I'd Rather Be Reading: A Library of Art for Book Lovers by Guinevere de la Mare (2017)
  5. A Century of Great Western Stories: An Anthology of Western Fiction edited by John Jakes (2000)
  6. How the Penguins Saved Veronica by Hazel Prior (2020) -- for Crossing Continents Challenge
  7. The Wild West: History, Myth and the Making of America by Frederick Nolan (2003)
  8. The Way of the Bear by Anne Hillerman (2023)

For July, I have chosen a much more manageable six books to read including The 71/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle which I failed to finish in June. I already started reading a history of the myths surrounding the Declaration of Independence and associated symbols such as the Liberty Bell and Uncle Sam. This inspired my patriotic theme for this month in my bullet journal and I may add another book on the early history of the U.S. before the month is out. I was torn between two books for July's Crossing Continents Challenge -- a book set in Australia -- so I have decided to read both. One work will qualify for the Bookish Books reading challenge and there is a modern classic which I am surprised that I have never read before.

To Be Read in July

  1. The 71/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton (2018)
  2. The Fourth of July and the Founding of America by Peter de Bolla (2007)
  3. Printer's Error: Irreverent Stories from Book History by Rebecca Romney and J.P. Romney (2017)
  4. The Secret River by Kate Grenville (2005)
  5. The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan (2013)
  6. The Diary of a Young Girl: The Definitive Edition by Anne Frank (1947/1995)

Which, if any, of these books have you read? What are you planning to read in July? Do you have any favorite books about the American Revolution? Please let me know by commenting below.
