I really struggle with trying to do too many things at once. I know I'd be far more productive if I focused on one task at a time and saw it through rather than flitting between projects. Several years ago a former student of mine Jenelle Law was studying graphic and media design at the University of the Arts in London and made this great video about multi-tasking.
She says multi-tasking is really a myth. You can only do one thing at a time. When you think you are multi-tasking you are really just switching between tasks in an unfocused way. It's not optimum for your mental health and well-being.
Especially when I'm on the computer I tend to multi-task having all kinds of online windows open at the same time and flitting between projects. Not very productive.
Jenelle points out that multi-tasking, while you eat, is detrimental to your physical health since you tend to feel less full and eat more than you should if you are reading, watching TV or doing something else while you eat.
Especially when I'm alone I tend to eat while I'm watching my favourite show on Netflix or with a book open beside me. Not very healthy.

Jenelle made her helpful video almost ten years ago but it is still a timely reminder that trying not to multi-task but to concentrate on one task at a time is more productive and healthier.
