Benalmadina: 12th June 2024.
We made it! It's the first time we've used the train to get to the airport, and it did prove to be a fairly good way to go ... but only relatively inexpensive if you use the Veteran's Railcard or something. The only issue I'd take is we couldn't find any adequate luggage space. There is some, but it would be advantageous if this was indicated in some way on the outside of the train. Maybe they should bring back the guard's van … and, that much-missed person, the porter!
But, one thing that hasn't changed is the almost unintelligible loudspeaker announcements, At Clapham Junction, it sounds like two people talking at once.
Another first was travelling with the airline Vueling, a Spanish budget airline ... which wasn't exactly the most comfortable airline I've ever flown with. But, it wasn't the worst, either. XL Airways still retain that dubious honour.
I was surprised when we were met, not by a coach which had to wait for a while, while the last passengers located their luggage, but by a taxi! We arrived at the hotel at one o'clock in the morning. We were checked in efficiently ... we were the only arrivals at that time ...and told the dining room had left some food out for us. But, at that hour, all we wanted was our bed!
