"Even if you are distracted!" . The twins didn't attend that lesson! Their tummies are getting quite round as they build themselves up for hibernation. We are wondering if the twins will continue to stay together when they re-appear next year. . "We like corn too, missus." . . "Unless there's cauliflower! They do love cauliflower! . How we will miss them when they bed down for winter! . Meanwhile the squirrel rotation continues. Until I came here, I thought all squirrels looked alike. . . When they are wet and bedraggled, their fur turns dark and they look very different, but wetness does not change the design of the tail! . Or the colour of their ears. . Some have recognisable faces! . Quite a few have an orange tinge. And not infrequently they turn up with wounds. This one had a very sore left shoulder. . Mostly, they don't stay around long. It is said that grey squirrels range from one to 25 acres. So who knows, maybe some of last year's friends will show up again. . The only one we would certainly recognise is Ghost. We've seen a few that could be his children, but none quite as pale complected. . He was a handsome boy. When animals don't show up I used to think the worst, but I no longer do because Ghost turned up once after many weeks absence. Last time he left, he seemed to take all the others with him, because suddenly there was not a squirrel to be seen anywhere on our property. . We like to think he's still out there, somewhere, so if you see a very handsome almost-white squirrel with a very long tail, please give him our regards! | | | |
