Bonticou Crag, Mohonk Preserve. NY
Mohonk Preserve is probably one of the best hiking area closer to New York where I climbed several times in the past Its interesting Lemon Squeeze. But because this hike was so nice I never went in another part of the preserve to explore other trails.

But on the northern side of Mohonk Preserve, opposite to Lemon Squeeze is Bonticou Crag, a hike that offers similar climbs, shorter but quite challenging on several spots. The hike brings you on top of the rock that stretches towards the valley.

The entire plateau is part of the Shawangunk Ridge of bedrock in upstate New York that has its walls lined up with ropes used by the rock climbers.

The hike continues to the ice caves of the Table Rock, a surface of cracked rocks with deep fissures that it may keep the snow at its bottom many months of the year. However we could not see any trace of the snow in this sultry summer day.

The entire hike with the climb on Bonticou Crag and the hike to Table Rock is about 6.3 miles.
