- Williams is entirely produced at the Chase Distillery on the family farm in Hertfordshire.
- It is distilled from estate grown potatoes, King Edward and Lady Claire varieties.
- My bottle was a gift from my friend Michael in early 2017.
Williams Great British Extra Dry was produced by Chase Distilling. Their entire operation is located in Hertfordshire, England. There they grow potatoes, distill them into gin and vodka, and bottle the final product. The potatoes grown are primarily two varieties, King Edward potatoes and Lady Claire potatoes. Distillation takes place in a 70 ft rectification column, so tall that it pokes through the roof of their barn.
The gin is flavored with both juniper berries and juniper buds. Additional botanicals include cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, almond, coriander, cardamom, cloves, liquorice and lemon. The result is a bright, juniper forward dry gin. It is well balanced and makes a perfect gin and tonic.
My bottle came to me by way of my good friend Michael who visited England in February of 2017. It sports a cute little bow tie. Who doesn't love a bottle of gin wearing a bow tie. It is the traditional 80 proof gin. Williams label is no longer bottled, but Chase continues to make a gin under their own label, which might even be the same recipe as Williams, Chase GB Extra Dry, and it too wears a little bow tie. We will just have to send Michael back to England to pick up a bottle.
