It's not like she'd ever lie, right?
Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign team said Tuesday it's a "lie" that she supports electric vehicle (EV) mandates, but her record on the issue suggests the opposite.
The Harris campaign blasted out an email ahead of Republican Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance's Tuesday visit to Michigan, with campaign communications official Ammar Moussa writing that Vance would "undoubtedly lie" about things like the notion that "Harris wants to force every American to own an electric vehicle." However, Harris backed EV mandates while serving in the U.S. Senate, and presided over the Biden administration's massive spending and regulatory push to effectively force more EVs on the roads.
"Vice President Harris does not support an electric vehicle mandate," Moussa wrote in the email. "Donald Trump railed against the Inflation Reduction Act while the Biden-Harris administration oversaw the creation of tens of thousands of new, clean energy jobs in Michigan and provided ground-breaking subsidies and tax credits for electric vehicles."
Five years ago, the Daily Caller points out, then-Senator Harris co-sponsored the Zero Emissions Vehicles Act, which initially aimed to mandate that all new car sales be either electric vehicles or emissions-free by 2040. During her unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign, Harris proposed advancing this goal to require zero-emissions vehicles for all new car sales by 2035.
As the second-highest-ranking member of the Biden administration, Harris played a key role while the White House pursued an ambitious electric vehicle agenda. The Biden administration's objective is for electric or other zero-emissions vehicles to account for 50% of new car sales by 2030. This on top of the NHTSA and EPA implementing stringent rules and the White House spending lavishly in order to unsuccessfully promote the production and sale of electric vehicles.
In short, the Harris-Waltz campaign now says that she opposes a policy being implemented by the government she is employed by. This on top of a number of walk-backs, like her recently embracing a border wall despite having been in charge of border policy starting in 2021, Harris hopes to rebrand herself with.
In the end, with all of these seemingly desperate policy switches, Kamala Harris will end up being a candidate who stands for nothing.
