I wear three rings on my left hand. Each was a gift from someone.
With my aunt when I visited her in Saskatoon for her 100th birthday
The one with a single stone was a gift from my Aunt Viola. I took care of her affairs for several years and once when we were sorting her jewellery she offered the ring to me and remarked on subsequent visits that she was happy to see me wearing it. Wearing it is a lovely reminder of her and the many things she did to keep my mother's side of the family connected.
Dave putting my wedding band on my hand
The gold band was a gift from my husband Dave. We bought our matching wedding bands at a two-for-one sale at Ben Moss Jewelers. I wore mine on my right hand when we got engaged and we switched it to my left hand at the wedding.
My grandmother on her wedding day. You can see her engagement ring on her finger.
The third ring was bequeathed to me by my grandmother Annie Jantz Schmidt. She was at our wedding and I think she may have noticed I didn't have an engagement ring so when she died she left hers to me. It is studded with tiny rubies and diamonds. I love it and will pass it on to one of my grandchildren someday.
