When we visited the Argentinian side of the famous Iguazu Falls, I didn't pay much attention to the little train which took us there from the Visitor Centre, 7 km. away. I didn't even find out its name till much later. It's the Tren Ecologico de la Selva (Rainforest Ecological Train) or, alternatively, the Tren de las Cataratas (Waterfall Train)

It was built by Alan Keef, Ltd,. at Ross on Wye, and consists of a locomotive and up to five open sided carriages. The train wends its way through the rain forest at a sedate 12 kph, giving passengers plenty of time to observe what's going on around them.

The loco is powered, not by steam, diesel or electricity but by propane! This, I assume, is why they adopted the name 'Ecological'.

Normally, when coming across a delightful little train like this, I'd have spoken with the staff, and taken more photographs. But, the terminus of the line is at the 'Devil's Throat', arguably the most spectacular part of the Falls. And, besides that sight, even the train pales into insignificance.
