- Garbage In Concert At Leeds Polytechnic - April 9, 1996 - BBC Radio 1 In Concert -
If the great French Existentialist writer Albert Camus were alive today, and asked what his favorite 90s band was, he would undoubtedly say Garbage. If not so much for the cutting-edge experimenting the band did, as the hypnotic and searingly low-key vocals of Shirley Manson. Another French legend, Francoise Hardy was asked in 1996 who her favorite band was, and without hesitating she said Garbage.
In any event, Garbage was one of the more popular of the Experimental/grunge/electronic bands to come out of the post-Seattle scene of the 1990s. Garbage were out of Wisconsin, even though singer Manson was from Scotland - they were still considered one of the most popular of the 90s bands from the States.
At the time of this concert, given at the Leeds Polytechnic University on April 9, 1996, Garbage were touring to promote the release of their debut album, which contained a number of hits, among them being the angst-ridden 90s anthem I'm Only Happy When It Rains.
On 4 March 2024, Garbage announced a European tour, marking their first tour in five years in continental Europe. The headlining tour includes dates in Germany, Italy, France, Denmark, as well as a date at the Wembley Arena in England. Two dates were confirmed in Manson's native Scotland – a main stage slot at the TRNSMT festival in Glasgow, and a date at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh. In April 2024, the band re–release their 2005 album Bleed Like Me to celebrate its 20th anniversary. For the release, the album was remastered, and will be packaged in formats including a 2 CD release with a selection of B-sides, remixes and demos from the recording sessions for Bleed Like Me featured on the second disc, a 2 LP red vinyl edition which includes ten B-sides and bonus tracks on LP number two, and a silver single vinyl LP with just the remastered album available. This marks the first time that Bleed Like Me will be issued on vinyl, as it was not pressed on vinyl for its original release in 2005.
Sunshine Pop they never espoused to be.
