If you go on a cruise in Alaska, chances are you'll make a call into Juneau. The small but mighty capital city has a surprisingly robust hospitality scene, with dozens of bars and restaurants packed into a small downtown area. But which ones are worth your time and money?
I already gave the scoop on the best Juneau eats that won't break the bank, which you can read all about HERE. So I decided it was my frugal foodie duty to reveal my top spots for getting a drink.
Let's dive into my 3 favorite Juneau bars!
There's something about majestic, rugged nature that just makes me crave a beer. I'm apparently not the only person with that sentiment-- Alaska is teeming with breweries serving up unique, delicious ales that'll get any hophead excited. You can try out popular Alaskan brews from the likes of Alaskan Brewing Co. and Anchorage Brewing Co. at various Juneau bars like Red Dog Saloon and Imperial Bar. But if you want to sip local (while avoiding other cruisers), head to Devil's Club Brewing instead.
Devil's Club Brewing Co. is the brainchild of three Juneau natives who all have one thing in common: a passion for beer. They pride themselves in their "adventurous ales" that pack some spunk with a splash of Alaskan grit. From hoppy IPAs to sours with a bite, the beer list is ever rotating and there's always something new to try. Plus, everything is made in house!
My recommendation is to start with a flight. Your sure to find one you love, and you'll need something to wash the pretzel bites with beer cheese down.....
Devil's Club Brewing Co. is one of my most frequented Juneau bars, and a can't miss!
Most Juneau bars are dark and grungy with "dive bar" vibes. Amalga Distillery is exactly the opposite-- it's bright and airy with light wood, high ceilings, and plenty of plants hanging every which way. Amalga is the only distillery in Juneau, and they specialize in Juneauper Gin and American Single Malt Whiskey.
Their cocktail list is constantly rotating, and most are served on tap. Which is probably why one drink won't set you back more than $10. A total steal if you ask me!
3. The Narrows Bar for Cocktails
If you're looking to sip on an elegant cocktail in an elevated setting, head straight to The Narrows Bar. The cocktail list is innovative and exciting, and the bar itself is classy without being pretentious. It's by no means the cheapest bar in Juneau, but hey, you get what you pay for.
My favorite is the Bad Hombre, which comes with tequila, laphroaig, serrano lime, and ginger beer. It has a light smokiness and zap of heat, making for a unique cocktail I've never seen anywhere else.
Each of these 3 Juneau bars offer up a unique taste of Alaska.
Happy sipping!
